Store Savvy: Kara Ross Hosts a Rock Lobster “Dinner Party” to Unveil New Line - Accessories Magazine
It wasn’t Maine, Cape Cod or even Montauk, but lobsters were the menu highlight last week in New York when Kara Ross hosted a very creative “dinner party”
Artist, Brad Davis of Three Lakes, Wisconsin is passionate about animals and nature – this love is evident in his art. From paintings of frogs, tigers, bears and birds his work includes both realistic and abstract interpretations of animals. Several years ago, Brad painted a series of frogs, which was inspired by his devotion to the species. He is currently working on a series of tigers on large canvases.
Brad is currently on a cross-country tour showing his artwork. The tour started in Sag Harbor and will continue on to New York City, Boston, St. Louis and Denver. His Manhattan show is tonight (August 12, 2014) at Carroll Place at 157 Bleecker Street, which is owned by Sue and Mario Riva.
Not included in his traveling show are his dog portraits, which were part of his very successful 2013 KickStarter Campaign The Summer of the Dog: 100 Portraits in 1 Summer. Included in the 100 are Finn Ross (Kara’s pup) and Remy Campbell (Kara’s sister Becky’s furry friend).
To purchase any of Brad’s work or commission your own Dog portrait, contact Brad at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Kara Ross Gives New Meaning to “Rock Lobster”
Rock Lobsters, a whimsical collection of objets d’art designed to embellish the home is Kara’s first foray into the world of tabletop décor. The pearl and crystal encrusted lobsters combine Kara’s passion for gemstones with her love of entertaining, and make a unique gift for even the most discerning personality.
The lobsters will make their debut in the window of Kara’s Madison Avenue storefront as part of a trompe l’oeil “dinner party” display: six of the crustaceans are the guest of honor at a dinner party dining on a sumptuous feast of fine jewelry and handbags. The bags are the centerpiece and the jewels are the delectable dishes, which the lobsters will have for dinner.
The whimsical window is designed and produced by Michael Kennedy and measures over 6’ x 6’, but since the space is shallow Michael had to create an optical illusion. Each surface is made from pieces of acrylic that have been painted. Each piece in the display is independently cut out and assembled together as if the whole window is an interlocking puzzle.
The window will be officially unveiled on Tuesday, August 5 at 12:30 PM at the store (655 Madison Avenue & 60th Street) with free fresh Maine Lobster Rolls from Luke’s Lobster for the first 100 people to Tweet or Instagram Photos of the Window using #RockLobsters.
Each lobster is made by hand, and features flexible legs and antenna allowing them to be positioned into a myriad of delightful centerpieces; they will be sold exclusively in Kara’s boutique at 655 Madison Avenue & 60th Street in New York City.
